Ok I'm late with this, but I want to thank everyone for coming down to the Sneaker Pimps - Thailand show at Bed Supperclub. It was a smashing success and a smashing good time (ok the sledgehammerguy has gotten into my brain). Anyway I want to thank my good friends Soo, and Prad at Channel V for the interview and show coverage, the old BPS crew for your support, the excellent staff and management at Bed Supperclub.

Everyone is gearing up for the big elections here, it's coming up on sunday. The circus is definitely in town now, posters everywhere but Chuwit aka "The Sledgehammerguy" looks like he's got the city on LOCK DOWN in the poster department, this guy has seeded Bangkok with these on a serious 3:1 ratio. Hats off to the Art Director on his campaign. Really. Dude, call me I want your steez. So all you Thai citizens, go forth and smash the state..or something. Pubs closed on Saturday night? I think so.

God Made Dirt - DVD & Postcard Set

I just finished a collaboration with David Lee on a DVD and postcard set based on the collage work created for the Levi's "God Made Dirt" show opening. It's been an extended collaboration that started back in March of 2004. The disc features a "process" video documenting the creation of the collage series, the animations created for the projected art installation, footage from the show opening in San Francisco and a motion gallery. The postcards are high quality reproductions of the 35 pieces produced for the show. The set is being distributed by Gingko Press for the European market (look for it at Magma Books in London) and can be found Stateside at the SFMOMA bookstore & Kinokuniya as well design boutiques like Last Gasp and Future Primitve.

Ring Movies!

Proof again that we here in the states are so hopelessly behind the Japanese. I've been working on some "ring movies" with Tomato for the Japanese cell phone market, they're just like downloadable ring tones except a video plays on your phone as well, good luck seeing this function in the states any time soon japan is so far ahead you guys </lament> more proof.

However, if you are living in Japan and have a 3G capable phone from either Vodaphone or DoCoMo, check out the clips and support the cause!

After my RAID died a few weeks back I've been trying to reconstitute my once massive mp3 collection. I've been an avid fan of a large amount of music coming out of the Warp label ever since I was sulking in the art room during lunch breaks in high school, they've launched a online music retail outlet called Bleep about 6 months back, just wanted to clue everyone in on the good shit.

All warp releases available for purchase in high qual .mp3 WITH NO DRM attached to it, which means I don't need a goddamned iPod for playback when I want to take my music with me (Sony Clie owner here) and I can share my purchased music with my friends like back in the days when companies didn't treat us all like criminals.

Bleep has since added many many more excellent labels to their retail line up like Mego, Soma, DefJux and much more. Word to the wise, once downloaded burn your files onto CD as a backup, after you buy it off the site, you'll only be able to get the files once, so no going back if you lose...oh all your mp3s from your harddrive and didn't back any of it up seriouslyi'mnotbitteraboutit.

Latest acquisitions :

Fennesz - Endless Summer
German guy, makes beautiful soundscapes reminiscent of a 60s beach party where unbeknownst to you at the time your date slipped a couple of hits of acid in your malt shake. Yes, the title of the album references the Beach Boys album, it's great stuff, I've got a couple of video ideas for this one.

Funk D'Void - Volume Freak
God I can't get enough of Diabla, really raging mean synths but still warm and deep. Good deep, techy sounds are hard to find these days. The video is a good illustration of what I mean by the raging synths. Have Real--buffering--Player ready (*rolls eyes*). "Way Up High" another excellent housy track with fat riding basslines.

Mouse on Mars - Radical Connector
One of the more pop friendly albums these guys have released, the vocals on "Send me shivers" make me melt, "Spaceship" is also one of the funkiest tracks I've heard this year, starts a little slow though, all you DJs out there please start the song at 2:14 k thx.

Subtle - F.K.O. (EP)
Fuck. Kelly. Osbourne. That's if you were wondering what the acronym stood for, but really the title is not the point. This single is beautiful, listen to the lyrics, hear the poetry, now please rage against the system. Here's a link to the video by animators SSSR, (if Maurice Sendak and Tim Burton had babies). I've heard it's supposed to be a trilogy, I'm waiting for more info.

The Rip Off Artist - Pet Sounds
What's up with musicians referencing the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson these days?? Not that it's a bad thing. But I guess you have to know what you're in for when you're buying a record off The Rip Off Artist. Still listening to this baby, have yet to form my opinion on it completely.

Tujiko Noriko - Hard Ne Sasete [Make Me Hard]
There's genius in a few of these tracks, she's singing her heart out and even if I'm ignorant of the Japanese language, the emotional content resonates very strongly. I know I like the song when music video ideas pop into my head right away and I can't help but be taken on a ride.

Jimmy Edgar - Bounce, Make, Model (EP)
This kid is on fire. Jimmy is out of Detroit and possesses the loc'd out drum programming skillz like a man on fire. This is the new sound. DETROIT IS COMING BACK.

I swear there's got to be like five thousand King of Thai noodle shops in SF now, I remember going to one on Powell street a few years back and that one was already called King of Thai noodles #6. Interesting that they number their stores, although I'm not sure I'd be very proud to operate a numerically assigned establishment, I suppose it gives some sort of small distinction to the shop even if it's part of a larger franchise but if the franchise got to the point of being McDonalds big, numbering stores would rapidly lose...its flavor. oh snap.

So my internal clock has been messed up pretty bad ever since the self imposed crunch trying to get some projection animations done for the Sneaker Pimps show in Bangkok that unfortunately has gotten postponed till sometime around the end of January. I'm on vampire time and I haven't seen the sun for a good two days now, especially since the sun goes down at bloody 5pm in these parts. Screw it. I'm just gonna let it ride and not try to adjust myself to fit the world anymore, who needs sunlight anyway.

I took a walk around the city for a bit tonight, fresh air was good but what was interesting is how the familiar things I'm used to seeing all seemed different tonight, maybe it was the afforementioned vampire time I'm on. I found myself liking it though; everything seemed to have this Blade Runner feel to it, listening to a Funk D'Void track called diabla while walking down Market. Who needs drugs?
